Scott's second shot for O's drops Tigers in eighth

After sputtering into the All-Star break in a 1-for-21 slump, Luke Scott assured Baltimore Orioles manager Dave Trembley there was no reason to worry.

According to Trembley, Scott said, "I'll get hot the second half. It's always been that way with me in my career."

Scott backed up those words Friday night, hitting two home runs to lead the Orioles past the Detroit Tigers 7-4.

McCann, Braves hold off late Nationals rally

he Braves believe they're still in the NL East race.

They also believe it's time to back up that belief.

Brian McCann's three-run double gave Atlanta the lead in the third inning, and the Braves survived the Washington Nationals' ninth-inning rally to win 7-6 on Friday night.

The Nationals left the tying run on third base in the ninth.

The Braves, who play at Florida and Philadelphia after the weekend series with the Nationals, are 6 1/2 games behind the first-place Phillies in the division.

Open Championship: Round 2

Even though he's in the lead, Greg Norman's expectations for himself haven't increased since yesterday. Here's some of what he had to say after his round yesterday:

"Well, yeah, of course you feel like you're stepping back in time. I think I can answer the two questions in one by answering the second part first. Yeah, my expectations were almost nil coming in, to tell you the truth. I hadn't played a lot of golf. I was trying to work on my game as much as I could. Obviously we had a lot of preparation getting ready for the wedding.

"We had a great time over there, so the least of my worries was getting out there practising and hitting golf balls and getting ready for the British Open. My last month has been really mind elsewhere, justifiably so, too.

"But that having been said, like I said yesterday in this pressroom, I'm still -- my expectations are still realistically low, and I have to be that way, too, because I can't sit here and say, OK, it's great, I'm playing well and I'm doing it. Well, I am playing well, I am doing it, but I still haven't been there for a long time.

"You work hard to get yourself into position, and I've just got to keep the same mind set going to the first tee tomorrow and every shot that I'm going to hit tomorrow. That's all I can do."
