The Carolina Panthers improved to 9-3 on the season on Sunday afternoon, with a come-from-behind victory in historic Lambeau Field. A late acrobatic catch by Steve Smith led to a touchdown run for DeAngelo Williams with under two minutes on the clock to seal a 35-31 victory.
After the past three weeks, the Panthers knew they had to come out strong on Sunday afternoon. They accomplished just that, as they stormed out to a 21-10 halftime lead. The second half however, was a different story.
Green Bay for the most part dominated the second half. Down by 11 at the intermission, the Pack stormed back and scored 18 points before the Panthers even knew they started. With 11 minutes to go in the contest the Panthers finally started showing some life as they got their third rushing touchdown of the day from Williams to tie the game.
At many points in the contest it looked as though the Panthers were going to let this one slip away. Aaron Rodgers was a force in the pocket for the Packers as he threw for 298 yards and three touchdowns. With a tied game and just under two minutes to go Mason Crosby of the Packers knocked home a field goal to lead by three.
That is when Jake Delhomme and the Cardiac Cats took back the contest. Almost immediately after the visiting team got the ball, Delhomme chucked it down field. He threw a pass complete to Steve Smith, in double coverage nonetheless, for 54 yards and set up a first and goal situation with 1:33 on the clock. Smith fell as he caught the ball in front of Charles Woodson at the six-yard-line and ran to the one. The play was reviewed, but was not overturned.
Williams took over from there on the next play as he obtained his fourth trip to paydirt on the day. With Rodgers having plenty of success through the air, this game was not over. The Packer QB would make his first mistake of the game though with just over a minute to play as he tried to force a ball downfield that would be intercepted by John Beason, sealing the fate of the Packers.
Carolina remains tied atop the NFC South division with Tampa Bay with a 9-3 record and the two will battle on Monday Night Football a week from today at 8:30.
