Maybe all it took was a little swing doctoring from the head coach. One night after mustering only three hits as a team, the Martinsville Mustangs shelled the Gastonia Grizzlies for 13, earning their first conference win of the season Wednesday night in convincing fashion, 9-1.
Martinsville head coach Barry Powell made it a point to talk with several of his players on the bus while returning from Tuesday night's 14-1 loss to Forest City, and before Wednesday's game, he worked with at least six of his players on stance and swing patterns.

Bowman: Glaus has evolved into huge key for Braves.[Jul. 29, 2010] First baseman Troy Glaus was not the highest profile free agent in the 2010 MLB off-season. His signing with the Atlanta Braves hardly sent shock-waves through the MLB world. Yet as Mark Bowman of AJC.com notes, Glaus has become one of the major keys to Atlanta's success through the first 4 months of the 2010 season (Photo/article: AJC.com).
McMurray wins exciting finish in otherwise dull Brickyard 400.[Jul. 26, 2010] Another Brickyard 400 presents another failed gamble by Juan Pablo Montoya: as a handful of drivers running at the front of the field took 2 tires on the race's final pit stop, Montoya took 4, a gamble that backfired. Montoya's teammate Jamie McMurray captialized and scored the win, giving owner Chip Ganassi auto racing's unprecedented triple crown: Daytona 500, Indy 500 and Brickyard 400 (Photo: Getty Images; Article: Tom Bowles of SI.com).
Former Wake and current Hornets PG Paul seeking trade.[Jul. 22, 2010] A scenario the NBA has feared could be on the way: a select number of franchises in "desirable" markets could be on the verge of becoming "super-powers," while "small" market franchises are left with the ambition of good rather than great. After Lebron James all but admitted Cleveland could not attract a high-profile NBA free agent, he bolted for the more desirable landing spot of Miami, where he could team with a pair of superstars to form an NBA "super team." Now, another "super team" could be on the way as New Orleans guard Chris Paul has expressed his desire to be traded to a franchise with the power to stockpile other superstars (Photo: US Presswire; Article:
Alabama's Dareus latest under NCAA investigation.[Jul. 21, 2010] The Alabama football program has become the third NCAA football program that has won a national championship since 2003 and has since faced an NCAA investigation. The Crimson Tide join USC and Florida on the list of teams to face NCAA investigations in 2010, as the NCAA is investigating whether Crimson Tide DE Marcel Dareus violated NCAA rules by attending an agent's party (Photo: Zimbo.com; Article: ESPN.com).
