[Nov. 9, 2009] A year after going 0-10 and posting yet another winless season, Magna Vista's football program has capped off its Piedmont District turnaround with a 22-14 victory at Bassett. The win assures Magna Vista of its first trophy in the Smith River Shootour, given annually to the winner of the Bassett-Magna Vista football game, in four year. [Nov. 4, 2009] Despite their two Piedmont District Volleyball wins coming via forefit, the Bassett Lady Bengals knew they could play with the top teams in the District. Bassett proved it Tuesday night, edging a young but feisty Magna Vista (13-10 Overall, 3-6 Piedmont District, both include District tournament) team in 5 games (25-22, 15-25, 18-25, 25-20, 15-8). The win moves Bassett (7-13 Overall, 3-6 Piedmont District, both records include District tournament) into the District Tournament Semi-Finals where they will face Tunstall on Thursday, at 5:30 (Photo/Article - Martinsville Bulletin).

Tunstall JV Volleyball captures first win over Bassett...and Piedmont District JV Championship.
[Nov. 4, 2009] Bassett's Junior Varsity volleyball team finished their regular season at 17-3 Overall and 8-0 in the Piedmont District. Still, they knew the Tunstall Lady Trojans would give them a great game for the JV District Championship. Tunstall did just that, knocking off the Lady Bengals in 4 close, hard fought games (25-21, 25-22, 23-25 and 25-21) to claim the Piedmont District JV Volleyball Championship. Tunstall finishes its season at 16-6 Overall, 6-3 Piedmont District, while Bassett concludes its season 17-4 Overall, 8-1 in the Piedmont District (records include Piedmont District Championship Game; Article Chase Young - Martinsville Bulletin).

[Oct. 31, 2009] Committing four turnovers doesn't help your efforts to win, but that might not have mattered for the Bassett Bengals Friday night. Despite playing without starting quarterback and leading rusher Jacob Reynolds, the Patrick County ground game proved too much for Bassett (3-6 Overall, 2-1 Piedmont District) in the Cougars 22-0 in Stuart. UNC FB Center Dyer on verge of comeback.
[Oct. 28, 2009] After suffering a shoulder injury prior to North Carolina's 12-10 victory at UConn, it appeared Center Lowell Dyer's playing days in Carolina blue might have ended. Instead, following an extensive rehab process, the man initially pegged as the starting Center on the Tar Heels' patchwork Offensive Line appears on the verge of returning to the field. [Oct. 28, 2009] When the Patrick County Volleyball team held a 2 games to 1 lead over undefeated Tunstall in Stuart Tuesday night, it looked like the Cougars might spring an upset. Instead, the Lady Trojans (18-0 Overall, 8-0 Piedmont District) rallied past the home standing Cougars and remained undefeated in 5 games (Article: Martinsville Bulletin).

Eagles muster little offense but slip past defunct Redskins 27-17.
[Oct. 27, 2009] Philadelphia Eagles Wide Receiver DeSean Jackson took an end around from Donovan McNabb 67 yards for a Touchdown, on the second play of the game, and put Philadelphia ahead of the Washington Redskins 7-0, almost from the game's outset. That play was one of two big plays from the second year player out of Cal, and really, that's all the Eagles offense mustered against a listless Washingon Offense. Then again, the Eagles really didn't need much offense on a night which saw the Redskins' much-maligned attacking unit surrender six sacks and fail to execute on a number of other plays. [Oct. 26, 2009] Denny Hamlin didn't need to use his front bumper to beat Jimmie Johnson to the Checkered Flag in Sunday's Tums Fast Relief 500 at the Martinsville Speedway. Instead, Poindexter, who is the Wahoos' secondary Coach, watched his defense help steal his day. UVA Cornerback Ras-I Dowling forced a fumble on Indiana's Opening drive, which Rodney McLeod returned 38 yards to the Indiana 32.
