ODSRA gears up for 35th charity run[Jun. 13, 2008] For the 35th time, the Martinsville-based Old Dominion Street Rod Association (ODSRA) will hold its “Lowbucks Charity Run.” The yearly event, open to pre-1977 vehicles, will begin at 1 p.m. today at the Dutch Inn and continue from roughly 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Oak Level Ruritan Park. Former Patriot and Mustang Casey Hodges was drafted by the Braves[Jun. 11, 2008] Casey Hodges recently became the first Patrick Henry Community College baseball player drafted by a major league club. Hodges, a pitcher, was taken in the 23rd round by the Atlanta Braves. The Franklin County native was a member of the 2005-06 Patriot baseball team managed by former head coach Barry Nelson. Hodges transferred to PHCC after competing for one year with the Radford University Highlanders. A pitcher and infielder, Hodges was a member of the Martinsville  Giants DE Strahan to retire after 15 years, seven Pro Bowls[Jun. 9, 2008] Michael Strahan has decided to retire from the NFL after 15 seasons. The defensive end's agent, Tony Agnone, confirmed the decision, which was firmed up over the weekend. Strahan had planned on notifying the New York Giants on Monday, but most of the Giants' front-office officials were attending a golfing event, so Strahan left a message before announcing his decision. "It was important that my teammates knew which way I was going before they got on the field to start the work to defend our title," Strahan told FoxSports.com, which first reported his retirement plans. "It's time. I'm done."  kasey Kahne wins at Pocono, 3rd victory in 4 weeks[Jun. 8, 2008] LONG POND, Pa. (AP)—Kasey Kahne won for the third time in the last four events with a dominating run Sunday at Pocono Raceway. Kahne started from the pole, overcame an early pit road penalty and led a race-high 69 of the 200 laps to continue the roll he’s been on since winning the All-Star race last month. Kahne vowed to take momentum from that $1 million win and use it to turn around his season. He’s done so, winning the Coca-Cola 600 two weeks ago and now the Pocono 500 to climb into championship contention.
