The 2009-2010 season has not been historical in a positive way, yet the Tar Heels salvaged a bright spot on Senior Night, earning a 69-64 win over Miami (FL) and the program's 2,000th victory (Photo/Article: InsideCarolina.com).
PHCC Baseball splits twin bill at frigid Hooker Field.[Mar. 1, 2010] With snow lining the Hooker Field warning track on a cold Sunday afternoon, Patrick Henry (6-3 Overall) split a double header with UVA-Wise (1-4 Overall), taking the first contest 7-4, then dropping the finale 10-3. Freshman Terrell Thompson paced the Patriots in Game 1, scoring 2 runs and driving home another on a 2nd inning RBI triple. In the night-cap, the Cavaliers jumped on PHCC with a 5 run first and never looked back (Photo: BassettSports.com/ Article: MartinsvilleBulletin.com).

Duke uses long 3s and rebounding to strengthen hold on ACC.[Feb. 22, 2010] Star power helped power Duke past Virginia Tech 67-55 in Cameron Indoor Stadium Sunday evening, as Nolan Smith, Kyle Singler, and Jon Schyer combined for 63 points and Brian Zoubek hauled in 16 rebounds. The win strengthens the Blue Devils' hold on the ACC Standings, as Duke moved to 23-4 overall and 11-2 in the ACC. The win effectively keeps Duke 2 Games above Maryland (9-3 ACC) as the Devils hold the head-to-head tie-breaker over the Terrapins and puts the Hokies (8-4 ACC) 3 games back, as Duke also holds that tie-breaker advantage (Photo/Article: Roanoke.com).
Florida State drops UVA 69-50, hands Cavs 3rd straight loss[Feb. 18, 2010] Playing three games in five days is not a task most NCAA teams must preform during the regular season. Still, if UVA's recent skid is any indication, keeping up come March Madness may be a challenge for a squad not accustomed to playing games on short rest. The Cavaliers suffered their third consecutive loss Wednesday night when Florida State traveled into Charlottesville and handed Virginia a 69-50 thumping (Photo/Article: TheSabre.com).
Jurrjens shoulder has mild inflammation, not severely damaged.[Feb. 17, 2010] Atlanta Braves fans can rest a bit easier. Luckily for the Jurjjens and the Braves, the right handed hurler is only experiencing mild inflammation in his throwing shoulder (Photo/Article: AJC.com).
Maryland rolls past UVA 85-66.[Feb. 16, 2010] For a team whose winning is predicated on their defensive effort, the UVA Cavaliers didn't display much intensity against Maryland's potent offense Monday night. Gerevis Vasquez gashed the Cavaliers for 30 points, 25 in the first half, leading the Maryland to an 85-66 win over Virginia (Photo: AP, Article: RoanokeTimes.com).
McMurray holds off Dale Junior to win delay-marred Daytona 500.[Feb. 15, 2010] Not even a 2 1/2 hour delay could prevent Jamie McMurray from debuting his Earnhardt-Ganassi ride in grand fashion. In face, some say it may have helped him. In a Daytona 500 which began at 1:19 PM Eastern and wrapped up after sunset, McMurray's car got stronger as night settled onto the Florida track. McMurray, running his first race in the #1 car with Earnhardt-Ganassi crew chief Kevin "Bono" Manion, got a shove from Greg Biffle which pushed him to the front on the second green-white-checkered restart. The linchpin for Carolina's class was offensive tackle James Hurst, the third ranked OT in the nation (Photo/Article: InsideCarolina.com).
'Hoos land 17 new recruits under London, retain OT Moses.[Feb. 4, 2010] In the span of almost two months, new UVA head football coach Mike London and his staff amassed a recruiting class of 17 players. While it didn't rank as one of the Nation's (or ACC's) top classes, the Cavaliers did a good job of adding quality new recruits while retaining the key players from the prior administration's class, including the prize of the class: Offensive Tackle Morgan Moses, who had previously committed to the Wahoos in 2009 before spending a year at Fork Union Military Academy in their post-graduate program (Photo/Article: TheSabre.com).

The Patriots responded with maximum focus Tuesday night in a 91-89 home win over Louisburg Junior College (ranked #10 in NJCAA play). Ross Williams' successful tip-in off a missed Josh McGill 3 point attempt with 2.1 seconds remaining proved the difference as the Patriots moved to 9-4 overall, 3-1 in Region X Play. The loss drops the Hurricanes to 13-3 Overall, 3-1 in Region X competition (Photo: BassettSports.com, Article: MartinsvilleBulletin.com).
Floyd County rolls over Bassett 63-46.[Jan. 13, 2010] In a performance far from typical, the Bassett Lady Bengals found themselves out worked by Floyd County in a 63-46 loss.
