Jones becomes latest to leave UVA hoops program.
[Apr. 6, 2010] In a 2010 which seemingly has featured more off-court turnover than turnovers on the hardwood, Jeff Jones has become the latest Cavalier to leave the Men's Basketball program. The junior guard avaraged 7.3 points per game in the 2009-2010 season.

Purnell bolts from Clemson to take reins at DePaul.
[Apr. 6, 2010] DePaul has found it's man to guide a once-proud, now dormant Men's Basketball program. It's come from a surprising source (and a local one, otherwise this wouldn't appear on ESPNSouthside.com). The Blue Demons have lured Clemson's Oliver Purnell to the same position at the Chicago-based university.

Devil's "shake the haters off," capture 4th National Championship.
[Apr. 6, 2010] The little engine that could gave their fans and the title chase an improbable run. The train just barely ran out of fuel. Brian Zoubek sank a late free throw and helped force Butler into a last second halfcourt heave which hit the rim but didn't fall, giving Duke a 61-59 victory over the Bulldogs for the 2010 NCAA Championship. The crown marks the fourth for both Coach K and the Blue Devils program.

Braves slaughter Cubs 16-5 in opener.
[Apr. 6, 2010] Atlanta Braves fans expected much-hyped phenom Jason Heyward to deliver quickly. Few expected his "welcome to the big leagues" moment to come in his first at bat. It did, however, as Heyward sent Turner Field into a frenzy by blasting a Carlos Zambrano fastball 446 feet for a 3 run homer (Photo/Article: Atlanta Journal Constitution).

Philly ships McNabb to Redskins for 2 picks.
[Apr. 5, 2010] Almost everyone knew the Philadelphia Eagles were set to trade Donovan McNabb. Almost nobody thought he'd be traded within the NFC East. After months of speculation, McNab has been dealt to Washington for a 2nd round pick in the 2010 draft and a 4th or 3rd round selection in 2011 (Photo/Article: WashingtonPost.com).

No guitar smashing this time as Busch takes Nashville 200.
[Apr. 3, 2010] Same driver, same track, different celebration. Last year Kyle Busch gained infamy for smashing his guitar into pieces following his victory at Nashville Superspeedway. Friday, in the Truck series' Nashville 200, Busch merely double-clutched the guitar as he captured his first truck win of 2010 (Photo: Tennessean.com/ Article: NASCAR.com).

Heels can't complete salvage of 2009-2010 season, fall in N.I.T. Championship.
[Apr. 2, 2010] North Carolina was on the verge of saving a 2009-2010 season that became a ship wreck almost as soon as it began. All the Tar Heels needed was a win in the N.I.T. Championship to offer some silver lining to an uncharacteristic season for one of college basketball's most storied programs. Yet metaphoric of the disappointing season, Carolina failed to seal the deal, falling to Dayton 79-68 in the N.I.T. Championship (Photo: Getty Images;Article: InsideCarolina.com).

Virginia Tech's Delaney to test NBA waters.
[Apr. 1, 2010] Virginia Tech point guard Malcom Delaney has announced he will enter his name into the NBA draft pool. The 6'3" junior, who weighs 185 pounds, will not hire an agent, leaving him with the chance to return to the Hokies until the NBA's May 8 deadline. Few insiders project Delaney to be selected, much less in the first round of the June draft (Photo/Article: Ronaoke.com).

Aminu leaving Wake Forest for NBA.
[Apr. 1, 2010] Wake Forest forward Al-Farouq Aminu has announced he will forgo his final two years of eligibility to enter his name in the NBA Draft. Aminu will hire an agent, as step which will terminate any chance that he returns to the Demon Deacons (Photo/Article: NewsObserver.com)

Tudor: ACC could pull off rare feat.
[Apr. 1, 2010] Normally this time of year, Duke and North Carolina are battling for a championship. Typically it's the same title, which happens to be NCAA Basketball's most prized one. This year, though, both of these teams can be crowned champions at their season's end, a feat which would be the first since 1992 for the ACC (Photo: Getty Images/ Article: NewsObserver.com).

Skins may spurn QB for offensive lineman with 4th overall pick.
[Apr. 1, 2010] The Washington Redskins have been known to make off-season splashes, particularly in areas outside "the trenches." As Washington Post insider Jason Reid suggests, this may be the year the Redskins actually consider taking an offensive lineman.

Drew's N.I.T. "legend" grows as UNC moves to Finals.
[Mar. 31, 2010] Three weeks ago, UNC point guard Larry Drew was cast by many as the reason for the Tar Heels disappointing season, which resulted in a trip to the N.I.T. Now the junior ex-villain has used the consolation tournament as a chance to establish his identity, while helping the Heels do the same. Now, thanks to a 69-68 overtime win against Rhode Island, UNC finds itself playing for the N.I.T. Championship Thursday against Dayton (7PM, ESPN 1160; Article: InsideCarolina.com, Photo: AP).

Hamlin wins second straight Cup race in Martinsville.
[Mar. 30, 2010] Denny Hamlin didn't exactly want to postpone surgery on a torn ACL in his left knee. Sometimes external factors alter plans. The Chesterfield, VA native came from fourth on the race's green-white-checkered restart to capture his first cup victory of 2010 (Photo/Article: Roanoke.com).

15-2 run to end game propels Duke to Final 4.
[Mar. 29, 2010] Critics say Duke is not flashy. Others point to a dearth of raw talent. All that can be disputed and validated. In the second half of Duke's 78-71 victory over Baylor, the Blue Devils proved that what critics can not dispute is they are now the best team of four standing. Offensive rebounds and second chance points were some of the little things Duke did well Sunday in their win over Baylor, a victory which puts them in their first Final Four since 2004 (Photo/Article: NewsObserver.com).

McLaughlin: Martinsville should gain race rather than lose one.
[Mar. 25, 2010] When tuning into NASAR on TV, you'll notice most every track is not close to full capacity. Martinsville Speedway hasn't been immune to the lagging attendance in the sport, yet Matt McLaughlin of FrontStretch.com argues that if a date is taken from the famous paperclip, NASCAR would "send a dagger into the heart of stock car racing" (Photo/Article: FrontStretch.com).

Hendrick dominance at Martinsville undisputed.
[Mar. 25, 2010] Since the 2003 season, Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson have each managed to finish in the top 10 at Martinsville every single time. Gordon has tallied four victories while Johnson and the #48 team have visited victory lane six times. Even the cars of Dale Junior and Mark Martin have found success on the paper clip. As the numbers from MRN Radio's stat book show, Hendrick has been the most consistent team at the Southside's most famous track (Photo/Article: MRNRadio).
