Bulldogs even record with victory over Rustburg[Sep. 7, 2008] Going into Friday night’s game against Rustburg (0-3), Martinsville coach Matt Foutz said he wasn’t worried about scores or stats; he just wanted the team to finish what it started. The Bulldogs (1-1) did, grabbing the first win of the season by a 42-22 final. “We played pretty well,” Foutz said. “Like they say, you get some good breaks because you make some big breaks. The decision on the Cup race was made late Friday afternoon after a meeting between NASCAR and Richmond International Raceway officials and consultation with state and local officials.  Redskins Can't Topple Giants[Sep. 5, 2008] It was bright lights, big city for the Redskins as they kicked off the 2008 NFL regular season--on national television--against the Super Bowl champion New York Giants on Thursday night. They could not play spoilers to the Giants' Super Bowl Party, falling at the Meadowlands.  Giants give Burress five-year, $35 million extension[Sep. 5, 2008] The New York Giants agreed to a new deal with Super Bowl hero Plaxico Burress hours before the season opener against the Washington Redskins on Thursday. The five-year, $35 million contract is worth $11 million in the first year. "We always remained hopeful that it would get done before the season started," general manager Jerry Reese said. "It came down to the last few minutes and we're happy to get it done so we can move forward in our season. Plax is happy to get the contract done as well. It took a little longer than we expected it to take, but Plax was professional about it the whole time. We're excited and happy that it's over and we're ready to move forward into this new season."
