UVA holds tough with #1 Duke into 2nd half before Devils pull away for 76-60 win at Cameron.
[Jan. 16, 2011] Using head coach Tony Bennett's pattented hard nosed defense, and receiving some help from #1 Duke's weak 3-point shooting, UVA held tough at Cameron Indoor Stadium through the first 26 minutes of Saturday's game. Then reality set in, as Duke used a 16-2 run to seize control in a 76-60 win over the Cavaliers (Photo: AP; Article: DailyProgress.com).

Smile Going into the Weekend
[Jan. 14, 2011] I'd be outright lying if I said there was a great purpose to this posting. The fact of the matter is, there isn't. It's Friday, been a strange week, and I think we could all use a laugh. That being said, check out the cover of the New York Post's Friday edition. Take it all in. That's something so corny, it circles back around to awesome. You can still click the headline to listen to all of our programming this weekend on your smart phone, as well as the "Listen Live" link or tuning into AM 1160 on your radio dial. Enjoy everybody! Florida State Hands Duke First Loss of the Season
[Jan. 13, 2011] The Blue Devils came into Florida State ranked number one in the country and riding a 25 game win streak. That all came to an end Wednesday evening when the 'Noles defeated Duke, 66-61, in Tallahassee. Derwin Kitchen had 22 points, giving Duke their first loss since March 3, 2010, the second longest win streak in school history. They key to the win was FSU's defense, a blue print which other schools should replicate, especially come March (Photo KansasCity.com/Article FOXSportsFlorida.com)

Ron Rivera Officially Hired as New Carolina Panthers' Head Coach
[Jan. 12, 2011] Yesterday, it was only a rumor. Today, it is a fact. Ron Rivera, the former defensive coordinator of the San Diego Chargers, inked a 4 year, $11.2 million deal to become the new head coach of the Carolina Panthers (2-14). Rivera has a long road ahead of him, and many decisions to make before the NFL Draft in April. Take a minute to learn about the man and what he can bring to Carolina (Photo LATimes.com/Article CharlotteObserver.com)

Sources: Ron Rivera Next Head Coach of Carolina Panthers
[Jan. 11, 2011] The Carolina Panthers, who fired John Fox earlier this month, are reportedly ready to hire Ron Rivera as their next head coach. Rivera began his coaching career as linebackers coach for the Philadelphia Eagles before becoming the Defensive Coordinator for the Chicago Bears. During his tenure in Chicago, the Bears had the 2nd best defense in the NFL. Since his time in Chicago, Rivera has served as the inside linebackers coach and, from 2008 until present, Defensive Coordinator for the San Diego Chargers. An announcement could come as early as today (Photo/Article CharlotteObserver.com)

SEC Wins BCS National Championship...Again
[Jan. 11, 2011] Stop me if you heard this one before: an SEC school is a national champion. Sure you could argue the semantics of whether they're actually national champions without a playoff, but the fact remains that, once again, an SEC school stands atop college football for the time being. Dan Wetzel takes a look at Auburn, the SEC, the how and the why teams from the southeast continue to own in BCS games (Photo/Article Rivals.Yahoo.com)

Maryland Misses Huge Opportunity Against Duke
[Jan. 10, 2011] If you had Maryland winning in Cameron Stadium against Duke yesterday, you almost got your wish. The Terps gave the Blue Devils everything possible, yet couldn't seal what would've been a massive victory for the program. Maryland fell 71-64, but showed that they can compete, and maybe even beat, the consensus number one (Photo/Article CharlotteObserver.com)

Looking Back: Cam Newton Credits His Family for Everything
[Jan. 10, 2011] Let's be fair for a moment - the media bashed Cam Newton and his family during this college football season. It was too perfect that his father, a pastor, allegedly arranged a pay for play with Auburn for Cam to attend. However, Cam Newton recently credited his family for his recent success. That shows character and family loyalty, and it's something the media will not feature too much heading into tonight's BCS National Championship game (Photo BKS1Radio.com/Article FOXSports.com)

With Luck Staying in College, What Do the Panthers Do on Draft Day?
[Jan. 7, 2011] Andrew Luck, the consensus number one pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, decided yesterday to remain in college. The Carolina Panthers own the first pick in that draft and said they would have taken Luck first overall. The NFL franchise needs a new head coach after firing John Fox and, probably, a franchise quarterback. With the days dwindling until the draft, one must wonder, how does Luck's decision affect the Panthers and their search for a coach? (Photo/Article FOXSportsCarolinas.com)

PHCC November Male Student Athlete of the Month: former Bassett Bengal Nick Goforth!
[Jan. 6, 2011] Former Bassett Bengal Nick Goforth joined ESPN Southside AM 1160 to talk about being honored as the PHCC November Male Student-Athlete of the Month. The interview aired at halftime of Wednesday's 84-80 win. After the interview aired, Goforth scored 26 of his game high 28 points to lead the Pats to their 8th win (Photo: BTW-21 Sports).

Clemson Tiger Da'Quan Bowers Declares for the NFL
[Jan. 6, 2011] In a move that should surprise really no one, standout defensive end Da'Qaun Bowers will declare for the NFL. Bowers, now in his Junior season, collected an NCAA high 15.5 sacks in a season which he dedicated to his father, who passed away before the season started. Bowers won the Nagurski Award, given to the best defensive player, as well as becoming an unanimous All-American this season (Photo/Article PostandCourier.com).

McFarling: ACC Football crown not enought to justify good season for Va. Tech.
[Jan. 5, 2011] Southside Connection" (M-Fri, 5-6PM) noted this point yesterday: if Virginia Tech wants to be considered an "elite" program nationally , they need to either change their coaching philosophy or start recruiting more elite players. Aaron McFarling of the Roanoke Times re-itterated this point noting, given the current state of the ACC, winning the ACC football Championship is not enough (Photo/Article: Roanoke.com).

Ratcliffe: Farrakhan's 31 propel UVA to 84-63 rout of Howard.
[Jan. 4, 2011] Virginia, behind a career-high 31 points from Mustapha Farrakhan, cruised to an 84-63 win over Howard on Tuesday night at John Paul Jones Arena (Photo/Article: DailyProgress.com).

Stanford's strong 2nd half leads to 40-12 Orange Bowl rout of Virginia Tech.
[Jan. 4, 2011] In the first half of the Orange Bowl, Stanford Quarterback Andrew Luck looked shaky at best. In the 2nd half the redshirt sophomore proved why he could be the top pick in the upcoming NFL Draft if he leavs the Cardinal, carving up Virginia Tech's defense by completing 9 of 10 passes for 201 yards and 3 touchdowns, leading Stanford to a convincing 40-12 Orange Bowl win over the Hokies. Virginia Tech now falls to 1-19 all-time against Top 5 teams under Frank Beamer (Photo/Article: Roanoke.com).
