In case you missed it: Redskins sign safety O.J. Atogwe.
[Mar. 8, 2011] Ever since Dan Snyder bought the Washington Redskins, they have always prided themselves on winning the "March Super Bowl" (free agency). Even though the NFL's collective bargaining agreement expired at midnight on Friday, March 4, the 'Skins snuck in a high priced free agent signing, inking released St. Louis Rams safety O.J. Atogwe to a 5 year deal. Former Redskins safety Matt Bowen analyzes why this is actually a good move (Photo/Article: NationalFootballPost.com).

Chili Dog: One you can enjoy for a long time!
[Mar. 7, 2011] If your kids keep pestering you about getting that new pup, look no further than the Martinsville-Henry County SPCA. Chili Dog, a 1 year old perfectly blended pug/beagle mix is the one for your family!

Freshman Marshall leads UNC past Duke 81-67.
[Mar. 6, 2011] Thanks in part to another strong game from freshman point guard Kendall Marshall, #19 North Carolina avenged an early February loss at Duke by scoring 51 points in the first half, then holding on for an 81-67 victory over the Blue Devils. The win gives UNC the ACC regular season title and the top seed in this week's ACC Tournament (beginning this Thursday at 11AM on ESPN Southside AM 1160) while the loss drops the Blue Devils to the #2 seed in the Greensboro event (Photo/Article: NewsObserver.com).

UVA pulls off 74-60 "upset" at Maryland.
[Mar. 5, 2011] Sammy Zeglinski scored a career-high 25 points, and Virginia beat Maryland 74-60 Saturday to cap a disappointing regular season for the defending Atlantic Coast Conference co-champions (Photo: Washingtonpost.com; Article: ACCSports.com).

Virginia Tech's tournament resume dealt another blow in 69-60 loss at Clemson.
[Mar. 5, 2011] After defeating #1 Duke 64-60, the Virginia Tech Hokies fans and players celebrated like it was the high point for their season. Since then they have had little reason to celebrate, losing their 2nd straight game to an NCAA Tournamnet "bubble" team, falling 69-60 at Clemson on Saturday (Photo: Scout.com; Article: ACCSports.com).

Spottswood dictates pace in 65-53 win over Martinsville.
[Mar. 5, 2011] The Martinsville Bulldogs knew they needed to create a fast tempo ball game to defeat Spottswood in the AA, Division 3 State Quarterfinals. For the last 4 minutes of the 2nd quarter and the first 3 minutes of the third frame the Bulldogs did that, turning a 13 point deficit into a pair of 2 point leads. Then the veteran Trailblazers flipped the script and slowed the pace of the game. The result: a 65-53 Spottswood win, which punched their ticked to a 2nd straight final four, while ending Martinsville's season for the second consecutive season in the AA, D-3 State Quarterfinals (Photo/Article: Roanoke.com).

Barnes' late 3 lifts UNC to 72-70 win at Florida State.
[Mar. 3, 2011] For the second time in two trips to Florida as a member of the UNC Tar Heels, freshman forward Harrison Barnes has sunk a game-wining shot to propel Carolina to a last-second win. Barnes connected on a 3-point shot with 3 seconds left to lift UNC to a 72-70 win over FSU and keep them tied with Duke atop the ACC standings, heading into Saturday's rematch against the Blue Devils in Chapel Hills (7:00, ESPN Southside AM 1160; Photo: AP.com; Article: InsideCarolina.com).

Boston College delivers a 76-61 upset to Hokies.
[Mar. 2, 2011] Hokie fans might be sensing deja-vu all over again. After an emotional 64-60 win over (then #1) Duke on Saturday night, Virgina Tech came out flat and never fully recovered, losing 76-61 at home to a Boston College team looking to shore up its NCAA Tournament resume. By doing just that, the BC Eagles also dealt a blow to the Hokies' "overall body of work." (Photo/Article: Roanoke.com).

Wall Street Journal: SEC Football Coaches defend over-recruiting.
[Mar. 1, 2011] Over-recruiting: The process of signing more recruits to your college athletic team than spaces you have available. It's a practice some NCAA coaches have repeatedly done. Now three coaches from NCAA Football's most competitive conference, the SEC are defending (Photo/Article: WSJ.com).

Not All Cats Fit for the Crazy "Cat-Lady" Neighbor.
[Feb. 27, 2011] When folks think cats, they often think of the crazy "cat-lady" who lives down the road. While some of them may be there, most cats are actually friendly and some are looking for a loving person to invite them in as part of their family. "Greenly," this week's Martinsville-Henry County SPCA "Pet of the Week" is both loveable and fit to rule the outdoors.

Hokies 64-60 win over (then) #1 Duke gives them "signature" win for NCAA Tournament resume.
[Feb. 26, 2011] On "Selection Sunday" 2009 and 2010, the Virginia Tech Hokies were criticized for poor "strength of schedule" and lacking a marque win. While the Hokies lack a "signature win" out of the ACC, their 64-60 upset over #1 Duke Saturday night in Blacksburg might trump any win they could have attained out of the ACC (Photo/Article: Roanoke.com).

UNC Sweeps Season Series from Rival State
[Feb. 24, 2011] They say when rivals get together, you can throw records out the window. That was the case last night at the RBC Center when the NC State Wolfpack welcomed in public enemy #1 the UNC Tarheels. State gave UNC all they could muster, but the 'Heels managed to walk away victors with a 75-63 win (Photo/Article News Observer).

'Melo Deal Could've Been Sweeter for Knicks
[Feb. 23, 2011] We all know by now that Carmelo Anthony was finally, mercifully, dealt to the New York Knicks. From Brooklyn originally, no one can blame an athlete, or person for that matter, for wanting to go back to his or her home. After months of reports and weeks of constant rumors swirling, 'Melo will don the blue and orange of the Knicks this Wednesday evening. While New York fans have reason to be happy, the deal could've gone better for them if it weren't for an old foe (Photo/Article Yahoo!).

ACC Weekend Recap
[Feb. 22, 2011] This past weekend was a big weekend for the ACC. With four top seeds picking up losses outside of the conference, Duke it back at the top of the pack. UNC is picking up steam, and Virginia swept rivals Virginia Tech. What does this all mean for the Big Dance coming up in March? Jim Young looks at these teams and others (Photo/Article ACCSports.com).
