Pearlman: Summitt should be new Tennessee head men's basketball coach
[Mar. 24, 2011] Schools in the SEC are not always open to new ideas. Fan bases don't usually like them if they haven't proven successful. Still, SI.com's Jeff Pearlman believes the best option to coach Tennessee's head men's basketball team is in Knoxville. On campus. Pat Summitt (Photo/SI.com).

ACCSports.com: Duke and UNC aside, ACC seeking "new blood" to create parity.
[Mar. 24, 2011] Parity is a favorite, if not somewhat divisive phrase of conference commissioners and sports fans. Unfortunately, the ACC has lacked that in recent years, as the conference has experienced a slide in productivity (aside from Duke and UNC). ACCSports.com's Barry Jacobs analyzes this trend and how this might soon end (Photo: VirginiaSports.com).

ACCSports.com: Duke bosts wealth at guard.
[Mar. 23, 2011] Duke Coach Mike Krzyewski has confirmed that point guard Kyrie Irving will see significant time on the floor, beginning with Thursday's Sweet 16 match-up against Arizona. This adds to what ACCSports.com has called "an embarrassment of riches at guard" for Duke (Photo: US Presswire).

Did Big East deserve 11 teams in NCAA Tournament? Yes, says Parrish!
[Mar. 22, 2011] NCAA Basketball fans, media members and speculators all have their opinions about this year's 2011 NCAA Tournament. Some have professed the Big East to be over-rated. Those folks now believe their case heightened as just 2 teams form the power conference have made the Sweet 16. CBSSports.com columnist (and Southside Connection guest) Gary Parrish disagrees, saying the "corporation" deserved 11 bids (Photo: NYMag.com).

Gung-ho for Gumbo!
[Mar. 18, 2011] Want a young dog without the hassle of potty-training? Need a young, energetic friend? Gumbo, at the Martinsville-Henry County SPCA is the answer for you!

NFL wide receiver Moss loving life as NASCAR owner.
[Mar. 17, 2011] With all the news Randy Moss has made as an NFL wide receiver, both good and bad, many folks forget (or don't even know) that Moss owns and operates Randy Moss Motorsports, which fields a team in NASCAR's Camping World Truck Series. Currently, moss plans to attend the Kroger 250 Truck race at Martinsville Speedway. For ticket information, visit MartinsvilleSpeedway.com (Photo/Article: CBSSports.com).

Lowe resigns at NC State.
[Mar. 15, 2011] Sidney Lowe was widely regarded as a class act throughout his five year tenure as NC State head men's basketball coach. Too bad the wins didn't tally as high as his class. After a half-decade in which Lowe's teams finished no better than 9th in the ACC standings, Lowe is out as the Wolfpack head coach (Photo/Article: NewsObserver.com).

"Former" NFL Players Association enourages draft picks to boycott 2011 NFL Draft."Former" NFL Players Association enourages draft picks to boycott 2011 NFL Draft.
[Mar. 15, 2011] In the midst of the mud-slinging between NFL owners/management and NFL Players, the "former" NFL Players Associateion and its "former" president DeMaurice Smith have encouraged NFL players to boycott the NFL Draft. CBSSports.com's Clark Judge (and guest on "Southside Connection") wonders if this really makes any statement (or sense). (Photo: LestersLegends.com).

A Spice Girl coming to your home?
[Mar. 14, 2011] The Martinsville-Henry County is giving you the chance to take a "Spice" girl home with you. Click on the picture to find out how!!

McFarling: Hokies have reason to complain about being left from NCAA Tournament.
[Mar. 13, 2011] When Virginia Tech fans or coaches feel victims of a situation they deem "unjust" they are not shy about voicing their opinions. Frequently, ESPN Southside's "Southside Connection" (M-F, 4-6PM) guest Aaron McFarling has criticized the Hokies faithful. This time, in the wake of Virginia Tech being left out of the NCAA Tournament for the 4th straight year, McFarling feels the Hokies have a point (Article: Roanoke.com).

Duke stymies UNC rallies, wins ACC Tournament Championship 75-58.
[Mar. 13, 2011] In the ACC Tournament quarterfinals and semifinals, North Carolina fell into early deficits only to rally against supposedly inferior teams. Sunday the Tar Heels fell behind 8-0 but their opponent was hardly inferior. Duke took the early advantage and never trailed, holding off several UNC rally attempts to win their 19th ACC Tournament Championship (Photo/Article: ACCSports.com).

Georgia Tech bids adieu to Hewitt.
[Mar. 13, 2011] Former Georgia Tech head coach Paul Hewitt was a classy basketball coach in both victory and defeat. Unfortunately Hewitt had more defeats than victories recently, guiding the Yellow Jackets for four losing seasons in the program's last six. That lack of success prompted Georgia Tech to dismiss Hewitt (Photo: AJC.com; Article: ACCSports.com).

Sideney Lowe Ends (final?) season at NC State with Class.
[Mar. 11, 2011] NC State fans and administrators have held lofty expectations for their head men's basketball coaches. While former Wolfpack coach Herb Sendek was loudly pushed out of town by State supporters, removing current head coach Sidney Lowe promises to be more difficult. Lowe's efforts have not generated the desired results, but he certainly has met expectations for class (Photo/Article: NewsObserver.com).

Think your child knows sports? Try to top this kid!
[Mar. 10, 2011] So your child is a walking sports encyclopedia? Does he or she have the inside scoop on the top prospects in the 2011 and 2012 NCAA basketball recruiting class? Chances are they don't have as much information as 16-year-old Alex Kline, who is a junior in high school but already operates his own recruiting website (Article: WSJ.com).

NFL, NFLPA Agree...on Rookie Wage Scale.
[Mar. 9, 2011] According to "Southside Connection" (weekday afternoons, 4-6) guest Jason Silver of Yahoo! Sports, the NFL and NFL Players Association (NFLPA) have agreed on a rookie wage scale. No first round pick will be able to sign for more than 4 years while no draft pick from rounds 2-7 (and undrafted) will be able to sign for more thatn 3 years (Photo: ETMoney.com; Article: Yahoo Sports).

Could NFL Lockout be a good thing?
[Mar. 8, 2011] While many sports analysts and NFL fans are worried that the NFL and NFL Players Association labor unrest could turn into a prolonged lockout and even missed game, former Denver Broncos Wide Receiver Nate Jackson proposes that a lockout might actually benefit the players, coaches and the sport as a whole (Photo/Article: WSJ.com).
