Dalton tabbed to lead 'Dogs[May 4, 2009] Visit a Martinsville High School football game at Dan Greene Memorial Stadium on a fall Friday night, and you’re likely to hear the phrase “Bulldog Pride” at least once.
That should continue to be the case, especially after the school hired Bobby Dalton as its interim head football coach for the 2009 season. By Johnny Buck-Martinsville Bulletin
Next generation: VT's Steve Bumbry continues to pursue major league dream[May 1, 2009] Virginia Tech center fielder Steve Bumbry understands that he is fortunate. He knows that not many college baseball players have gotten birthday wishes from one of the greatest right-handed hitters of all time.

Spring sports flourishing at Virginia[Apr. 30, 2009] There went the neighborhood, Brian O'Connor likes to joke.
When a house on his street came on the market three years ago, the University of Virginia baseball coach knew just the person to call -- his hall mate at UVa's McCue Center, men's tennis coach Brian Boland.
Quite the catch for PHCC[Apr. 29, 2009] When Tony Jones accepted the task of building a women’s basketball program at Patrick Henry Community College from scratch, he mapped out a five-year plan.
After signing Andrea Barbour and Kendra Allen, however, that timetable might need to be accelerated. By Johnny Buck- Martinsville Bulletin
Foutz to leave Bulldogs[Apr. 28, 2009] Martinsville High School needs a new football coach, and Bulldog officials hope to make the hire “as soon as possible.”

Neck-and-neck until the finish, Martinsville’s Javon Tarpley edged Patrick County’s John Harris in the 100-meter dash to finish in 10.93 seconds, just 0.01 seconds faster than Harris.
MHS, BHS split games[Apr. 22, 2009] Martinsville and Bassett split soccer games on Tuesday, as the Lady Bengals got a 1-0 home win before Martinsville’s boys team earned a 3-0 victory to claim sole possession of first place in the Piedmont District standings. By Johnny Buck
Hokies decide on Clayton as No. 2 QB[Apr. 21, 2009] As Ju-Ju Clayton spoke with the media following Virginia Tech's scrimmage last Saturday, Hokies starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor strolled past the scene, broke into a huge grin and started chanting: "Ju-Ju ... Ju-Ju!"
Yes, Ju-Ju is the guy.
Rightfully so, all eyes on Vic[Apr. 20, 2009] CHARLOTTESVILLE -- Vic Hall wanted to talk about special teams.
That was the first thing out of his mouth following Virginia's spring game Saturday -- how good the team's special teams looked, how much better they've gotten.
Not his first appearance at quarterback in front of the home crowd.
John Madden retiring from broadcasting[Apr. 17, 2009] NEW YORK -- John Madden is retiring from football announcing, where his enthusiastic, down-to-earth style made him one of sports' most popular broadcasters for three decades.

Bumpy ride to NASCAR Chase[Apr. 14, 2009] It's up, well, mainly it's been down, but the stock market bounces all over the place with the unsteadiness of a child learning to walk.
Kind of like the NASCAR season for some teams. For every Jeff Gordon, whose stock is rising faster than Jim Cramer can shout buy, there's others who have struggled nearly as bad as AIG.
