The Bulldogs end their season at 18-4 overall, while JF improved to 22-0 and advances to the ste semifinals Friday against Blacksburg.
Jimmie Johnson charges past Stewar late, wins at Dover[Jun. 1, 2009] Jimmie Johnson dominated for most of the Autism Speaks 400 Sunday, but had to use a late rally to pull past Tony Stewart and take the checkered flag. Johnson came out 8th following a pit stop on lap 378, but his dominating car proved too much for the field, as he captured his second victory of the 2009 season. Tony Stewart, who finished second, now leads the standings by 46 points over Jeff Gordon.

Reutimann captures first Cup victory in rain-shortened Coca-Cola 600.[May 26, 2009] Ultimately, the record book never asks how you won the race, but rather if you won the race. Suffice it to say, but after 75 career Sprint Cup races and 3 rain delays in this past weekend's Coca-Cola 600 from Charlotte, NC, David Reutimann doesn't care how he won his first Sprint Cup race, just that he finally went to victory lane.
Bassett pulls out 1-0 girls soccer victory for P.D. Tournament Title[May 22, 2009] One of the more difficult tasks as a team is to preserve a 1-0 lead, given the limited margin for error. The Bassett Lady Bengals accomplished the feat in Thursday night's Piedmont District Tournament Championship game. Sasha Doss tallied a goal in the 39th minute of the first half and the Lady Bengals used a stellar defensive effort in the second half to defeat Tunstall 1-0 and give the school its second straignt tournament crown for girls soccer.
Trojans cruse to 12-2 win, 8th straight Pidemont District Tournament baseball crown[May 22, 2009] Tunstall head baseball coach Barry Shelton admitted his team's primary focus was not to win the Piedmont District tournament championship, but rather to work towards a state crown.
The Trojans the tournament title tilt slow against Bassett, leading only 4-2 after four innings. Then, however, Tunstall scored 8 unanswered runs and showed why they may be poised to bring home the school's first state championship for baseball since 2005.
Peavy set to be traded...but not to Braves.[May 21, 2009] The baseball world has known for a while that the San Diego Padres have considered trading ace Jake Peavy. For much of this past off-season, the Atlanta Braves were rumored suitors for the talented right-handed pitcher. Peavy, it appears, is poised to change addresses, but the Southside (of Chicago) now appears to be the destination.
