O'Brien was named the MVP of the Chicago Football Classic after torching
Central State for three passing touchdowns in a 47-13 victory...The junior
connected on 15 of 23 passes for 367 yards as State improved to 2-0 in front
of 35,000 at historic Soldier Field.

OH/Darren Banks, West Liberty State, CB, Sr., 5-10, 188, Camden, NJ:
Merchant notched eight tackles, including five for loss, in State's 47-13
win against Central State...The sophomore currently leads the WVIAC with
seven TFL and four sacks on the season...Banks made a major impact in his
first contest of the season with a pair of interceptions, four tackles, and
a pass breakup...The senior's second interception ended Walsh's final
scoring threat of the day, while his third quarter tipped pass led to an
interception setting up the Toppers' go-ahead score...He moved into second
on the WVIAC career interception list with 30 following his two-pick
afternoon.

reception as the Golden Eagles squared their record at 1-1...Tranks returned
a second quarter punt 75 yards for a score as Seton Hill improved to 2-0 for
the first time in program history by downing Geneva 27-18...The 2007
All-WVIAC selection also notched a 19-yard kickoff return.

Week #2 Game Recaps:*
West Virginia State 47, Central State (OH) 13
(CHICAGO)---Kevin O'Brien threw for three touchdowns and 367 yards as West
Virginia State (2-0) thrashed Central State (0-2) in front of 35,000 in the
Chicago Football Classic.
Brian Mitchell added 121 rush yards and two scores as the Jackets built a
30-7 lead by halftime and cruised. Mitchell also caught four passes for 65
yards to help State own a 528-279 edge in total offense.
Brandon Kennedy posted a game-high 105 receiving yards on three catches for
State. Craig Wissler booted field goals of 23 and 44 yards. Elisha
Merchant paced the WVSU defense with five tackles for loss, including two
sacks.
Both Central State scores came off long passes. Jeff Brooks connected with
Daniel Stover from 53 yards out in the first quarter. Backup Melvin Dunson
hit Tyrel Thompson with a 61-yard strike in the final minute.
West Liberty 24, Walsh 10
(CANTON, OH)---Brandon Ore rushed 26 times for 167 yards and Nate Worek
tossed two touchdown passes as West Liberty (1-1) knocked off Walsh (1-1)
24-10.
Darren Banks provided a pair of interceptions for the Toppers to move into
second place on the all-time WVIAC list with 30 career picks. West Liberty
limited the homestanding Cavaliers to ten first downs and only 252 yards of
total offense.
Worek put West Liberty in the lead for good with a 27-yard third quarter
touchdown pass to Eddie Hills. Ore provided the clinching score with an
eight-yard touchdown in the final minute. WLSC's balanced attack gained 188
yards on the ground and 186 through the air.
Walsh was paced by running back Clinton Blossomgame's 123 rush yards on 28
carries. The homestanding Cavs were held scoreless over the game's final
42:53.
Charleston 34, St. Augustine's (NC) 17
(CHARLESTON)---Charleston (1-1) bounced back from a disappointing opening
day effort to bounce visiting St. Augustine's (1-1) 34-17. Julian Johnson
caught a 23-yard touchdown pass and added an 82-yard kickoff return for a
score for the Golden Eagles.
UC quarterback DeRante Hunter rushed 11 times for 48 yards to lead his
squad, while completing 5 of 6 passes for 138 yards.
St. Augustine's, which trailed 27-3 midway through the third quarter,
received 93 rush yards on 22 carries from Anthony Brown. The Mighty Falcons
were outgained 355-328 on the afternoon as they allowed more than two
touchdowns for the first time in their last six contests.
Shepherd 14, Bowie State 0
(SHEPHERDSTOWN)---#13 Shepherd (2-0) blanked Bowie State (1-1) 14-0 in
monsoon-like conditions. The teams combined for only 280 yards of total
offense (SU 157, BSU 123) as they battled the remnants of Hurricane Hanna.
SU struck for an eight-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Lazear to Ryan Lavin
on their first possession, but the Rams wouldn't score again until a
ten-yard A.J. Brown touchdown rush with 6:37 left in the game.
Shepherd's Jimmy Sutch took game honors with 77 rush yards on 23 carries.
Bowie State's Isaac Redman paced the Bulldogs with 71 rush yards.
The Ram defense forced five turnovers and only allowed Bowie State to
convert 2 of 12 third down conversions.
Fairmont State 34, Lake Erie 21
(FAIRMONT)---Fairmont State (2-0) built a 24-0 halftime lead and held on for
a win over Lake Erie (0-2). The Falcon defense forced six turnovers as FSU
ran their win streak to six.
Vick Bradford paced the Fairmont State offense by throwing for 141 yards and
three touchdowns. Doug Brazill added 74 rush yards on 18 carries. Backup
quarterback Derek Taylor contributed a key 13-yard fourth quarter touchdown
after Lake Erie had pulled within 27-21.
Nate Black topped the Fairmont defense with 14 tackles, including a pair for
loss. Lake Erie quarterback Sean Bedevelsky had 76 rush yards and passed
for 173 yards, but was picked off three times.
Lenoir-Rhyne 28, Concord 10
(HICKORY, NC)---Lenoir-Rhyne (2-0) overcame a 10-0 deficit to down Concord
(0-2). Andrew Courman rushed for a pair of touchdowns and L-R piled up 371
rush yards en route to victory.
The Bears' Joey Robinson led all rushers with 96 yards on only eight
rushes. Concord's James Wilson had 89 yards on 14 carries. CU quarterback
Thomas Frazier completed 15 of 34 passes for 134 yards and a score.
Mountain Lion freshman Chandler Tyree took game honors with 11 stops.
However, L-R owned a 414-249 total offense advantage.
Virginia Union 35, West Virginia Wesleyan 14
(RICHMOND, VA)---Virginia Union (1-1) got 196 rush yards from Tarian
Donaldson as the Panthers scored the game's final 21 points in a 35-14 win
over visiting West Virginia Wesleyan (0-2).
Phillip Taylor added 113 receiving yards for the victors and Enrique Cox
opened the game with a 95-yard kickoff return score. Quarterback Lamar
Little threw for 151 yards and two touchdowns.
Jason Jackson scored on rushes of 5 and 2 yards for Wesleyan. Reggie Taylor
led the Bobcat offense with 93 rush yards on 21 carries. A pair of WVWC
quarterbacks were limited to 7-for-22 passing good for 96 yards.
Virginia Union, which led 21-14 at the break, owned a 430-217 advantage in
total offense.
Seton Hill 27, Geneva 18
(BEAVER FALLS, PA)---Seton Hill (2-0) scored 27 unanswered points in the
opening half and went on to down Geneva (0-1) 27-18. Antwarn Jones had 138
rush yards and two touchdowns, while Sammy Tranks returned a punt 75 yards
for a score, to lead the Griffins to their first 2-0 start in program
history.
The Griffins held a 265-118 edge on the ground and a 370-281 advantage in
total offense. Gerard Muschett led Geneva with 82 rush yards, including a
76-yard fourth quarter touchdown.
Steve Trent provided Seton Hill with nine tackles, including two for loss,
and a forced fumble. Mychal Butler chipped in two sacks for SHU.
Liberty 44, Glenville State 27
(LYNCHBURG, VA)---Glenville State (1-1) rallied for three fourth quarter
touchdowns, but it wasn't enough at Division I-FCS Liberty (2-0) in a 44-27
setback.
Jerry Seymour led all players with 145 rush yards on 15 carries. James
McCants rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another. McCants completed
10 of 24 passes for 121 yards.
Liberty quarterback Brock Smith completed 7 of 11 passes for 202 yards and
three scores. Zach Terrell chipped in with 110 rush yards and a touchdown.
Dominic Bolden caught two Smith's touchdown strikes.
GSC's Randy Dobie and Kaleb Lawrence each ended with a game-high 11
tackles. Dobie also added an interception and a quarterback hurry.
