Virginia In Maui Invitational Field In 2010
The Virginia men’s basketball team is in the field for the 2010 EA SPORTS
Maui Invitational. Joining the Cavaliers in the tournament field in 2010
are Connecticut, Kentucky, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Washington, Wichita
State and host Chaminade.
The tournament is held at the Lahaina Civic Center during Thanksgiving week.
It will be Virginia’s fourth appearance in the tournament. The Cavaliers
have compiled a 5-3 overall record in the tournament and reached the
championship game in their two most recent appearances. In 2002, Virginia
defeated Chaminade (86-72) and Kentucky (75-61) before losing to Indiana
(70-63) in the championship game. The Cavaliers defeated South Carolina
(93-70) and Massachusetts (75-68) to advance to the 1996 championship game
where they lost to Kansas (80-63).
Virginia also participated in the inaugural tournament in 1984 when it was
called the Hawaiian Airlines Silversword Invitational and was held in Kona
on the island of Hawaii. The Cavaliers lost to Providence (75-71 in
overtime) and defeated Davidson (69-65) in 1984.
EA SPORTS is in its eighth year as title sponsor of the tournament.

No. 11 Virginia Travels To No. 25 ODU Friday Night
The 11th-ranked Virginia women¹s basketball team hits the road for a
Friday night match-up at No. 25 Old Dominion. Tip-off from the Ted
Constant Convocation Center is 7 p.m., and live statistics are available
at VirginiaSports.com.
Additionally, the game will be broadcast over the airwaves on WINA 1070 in
the Charlottesville area with Jay James, Myron Ripley and Larry Johnson
calling the action. Live audio can be accessed on the internet with V Pass.
Virginia (2-0) looks to continue its unbeaten streak and build on Monday
night¹s 83-82 upset at No. 5 Tennessee. In that game, Monica Wright poured
in a career-high 35 points and Britnee Millner sunk a free throw with five
seconds left in the game to key the victory.
Wright, who led the team in scoring last season, is picking up right where
she left off in 2007-08, averaging 25.5 points per contest through two
games. The preseason All-ACC candidate, Wade Watch list member and Wooden
Award candidate is also contributing 5.0 blocks and 6.0 steals per game.
Old Dominion (2-1), ranked No. 25 by the Associated Press and No. 24 by the
ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll, is coming off of a 78-44 setback to No. 14
Texas on Monday night. The Lady Monarchs are riding a 26-game home win
streak, which ties for the second-longest in the nation.
ODU knocked Virginia out of the 2008 NCAA Tournament, defeating the
Cavaliers 88-85 in overtime on March 25, 2008. Jazzmin Walters hit a
3-pointer with 4.8 seconds remaining to send Old Dominion into the NCAA
Sweet Sixteen.
In the all-time series, Virginia trails, 17-14. The NCAA Tournament victory
by the Lady Monarchs last season snapped a five-game Cavalier win streak in
the series.
Up next for Virginia is a home contest against Colorado on Monday, Nov. 24.
Tip-off from John Paul Jones Arena is 7 p.m. and the game will be streamed
live by ACC Select.
