UVa on the road Friday at George Mason, returns home Sunday vs. Hofstra
CHARLOTTESVILLE The Virginia men¹s soccer team will travel to George Mason
for an 8 p.m. Friday night match before returning home Sunday to face
Hofstra at 7 p.m. Live stats are available for both contests.
Virginia (0-2-0) hosted the Virginia Soccer Classic last weekend, welcoming
national powerhouses St. John¹s, SMU and Old Dominion to Klöckner Stadium.
The Cavaliers fell in two close matches, 1-0 to St. John¹s (now ranked No.
22) and 3-1 to No. 7 SMU.
Freshman Chris Agorsor (Severn, Md.) netted his first career goal against
the Mustangs, one-touching a shot into the back of the net off of assists by
Matt Mitchell (Tariffville, Conn.) and Brian Ownby (Glen Allen, Va.). Ownby,
also a freshman, tallied the first points of his young collegiate career
with the assist.
Virginia leads the series with George Mason, 15-8-3, in contests dating back
to 1972. The teams last met during the 2006 season, a 2-0 UVa victory in
Charlottesville. Virginia and Hofstra, meanwhile, have never met in men¹s
soccer action.
Sophomore goalkeeper Dan Louisignau (Wilmington, Del.) earned two starts
over the weekend, registering seven saves.
Besides Ownby and Agorsor, fellow freshmen Tony Tchani (Bafang, Cameroon),
Hunter Jumper (Plano, Texas), Shawn Barry (Miramar, Fla.), Howard Turk
(Falls Church, Va.), redshirt freshman Jimmy Simpson (Warrenton, Va.) and
junior transfer Jordan Evans (Chester, Va.) all earned their first career
starts in a Cavalier uniform.
After the weekend matches, Virginia will travel to intrastate foe VCU on
Saturday, Sept. 13, for a 7 p.m. game.
