CHARLOTTESVILLE The Virginia men¹s soccer team will seek its
third-straight win on Saturday night, when it heads to Virginia Commonwealth
University for a 7 p.m. match. Live stats are available at
www.VirginiaSports.com.
The Cavaliers (2-2-0) have won two-consecutive matches. Last weekend, they
topped George Mason, 3-2, in double overtime then returned home to defeat
Hofstra, 4-2, on Sunday. Against the Patriots, freshman Brian Ownby scored
the golden goal with less than a minute left in the second extra period,
while fellow freshman Tony Tchani netted two goals against the Pride.
Freshman Chris Agorsor continues to lead UVa offensively, as he has tallied
a team-high three goals so far in 2008. The Severn, Md., native had a goal
against Hofstra, heading home a Neil Barlow corner kick.
The corps of first-years continue to contribute immediately for Virginia, as
three of five UVa goal-scorers are rookies, while eight newcomers have
earned starts for the Cavaliers.
VCU (1-3-0) is coming off of a 4-1 loss to Seton Hall on Sept. 7, and has
dropped two contests to ranked opponents (2-1 to No. 1 Wake Forest; 1-0 at
No. 24 North Carolina). The Rams¹ victory came on Sept. 5, 3-0, against
Bryant.
The Rams are led by Jorit Loehr, who has scored two goals and has one assist
this year. C.J. Gehin-Scott, Gerson Dos Santos and David Rosenbaum have also
scored goals for VCU this season.
In goal, Andrew Dykstra has started all four of VCU¹s games and has allowed
seven goals while making 11 saves.
Up next for UVa is its ACC opener, a Sept. 19 game against NC State.
Kick-off from Klöckner Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
