Virginia Welcomes Central Connecticut State For Tuesday Night Match
Cavaliers are seeking third-straight home victory
CHARLOTTESVILLE Fresh off a 5-0 shutout and ACC-opening victory over NC
State Friday night, the Virginia men¹s soccer team looks to continue its
momentum with a Tuesday night game against Central Connecticut State.
Kick-off from Klöckner Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. and live statistics
are available at www.VirginiaSports.com.
Virginia (3-3-0, 1-0-0 ACC) exploded offensively against the Wolfpack,
scoring five goals en route to its first shutout of the season. In goal for
UVa, Michael Giallombardo made four saves in his first start of the year,
while the Cavalier freshmen got it done offensively by accounting for all
five goals.
True freshmen Tony Tchani (two goals), Chris Agorsor and Hunter Jumper all
tallied scores vs. the Wolfpack, while redshirt freshman Jimmy Simpson
tacked on the fifth goal to lead Virginia to the 5-0 win. In all, 13 of
Virginia¹s 14 goals this season have come from freshmen.
Tchani leads the team with five goals, while Agorsor has four on the year.
Simpson¹s goal against NC State was his second of the year while Jumper,
Matt Mitchell and Brian Ownby have also registered goals.
Central Connecticut State (4-1-1, 0-0-0 Northeast) is coming off of a
Saturday road win at Manhattan. The Blue Devils earned a 1-0 victory on a
goal by Yan Klukowski in the 30th minute. Klukowski leads the team with four
goals and an assist on the year, followed by Christopher Brown (three goals,
one assist).
In goal for Central Connecticut State, Paul Armstrong has started all six
games and allowed just four goals for a 0.64 goals-against average. The Blue
Devils have shut out three of their six opponents.
Virginia and CCSU have met just once in men¹s soccer action, a 4-0 Cavalier
victory during the 1997 season.
Up next for Virginia is a contest at ACC and in-state rival Virginia Tech on
Friday night. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
