Denver Johnson, Illinois State head coach
On first half ball control
“I think we left some points on the field in the first half. We were playing a level up and on the road, you have to avoid these kind of things.”
“I talked about with my team that the team that makes the fewest mistakes is going to win the ball game and think that came true today.”
“When we review the film I’m sure there will be things we can celebrate and be proud of but I’m also quite certain there are going to be things that we find frustrating. We’ll see the film and illuminate what are flaws are and try to improve before we take the field again.”
On the return of starting quarterback Kevin Brockway following a busted chin
“Well he’s tough kid. I think he took several stitches from gashing his chin. He’s a fifth year guy and he’s looking for a big senior year. I think it speaks volume about his toughness to get fixed up and come back.”
Mark Snyder, Marshall head coach
“It was a game of big plays. They’re going to stack it up and try to stop our run, we’re going to have to hit an x amount of big plays.”
“I told our players it’s a far cry from where we’ve been. We played a clean football game. We wanted to see where exactly we’re at and what we can do.”
On redshirt freshman Mark Cann
“We knew going into the game that we were going to protect him (Cann), I thought we did a good job with that for the most part. I thought managed the game pretty well. I think he’ll continue to get better and better.”
On Darius Marshall
“I thought Darius (Marshall) got better as the game went on. We didn’t do a whole lot of banging at camp and it was the first time he took some bangs and it showed a little bit but I thought he got stronger.”
On Albert McClellan
“It’s good to have him back. He came up with a couple big sacks. He has that extra little burst and those are big plays.”
“A lot of young people played today and hopefully they’ll continue to get better. It was nice to have those bodies to roll.”
