The Thundering Herd fell to Rio Grande 1-0 in the team's first exhibition of the season, Saturday.

Returning scorer senior Kolby LaCrone (Westerville, Ohio) managed two shots and one on goal in the three-period contest. Juniors Nick Daniele (Columbus, Ohio) and Dustin Dawes (Nashville, Tenn.) both contributed two shots.

The lone goal for the Redmen came at the 37-minute mark in the second period by Matt Mahoney.

In goal for Marshall, senior Greg Walter (Slippery Rock, Pa.), who is returning from injury, played the entire game with four saves.

Up next for the Herd will be a exhibition match at Penn State Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
