Liggins, Hansen Earn Initial WVIAC Basketball Weekly Honors For '08-'09



*Men's Basketball Player of the Week (11/15-16):*

---Sam Liggins, Alderson-Broaddus, 5-10, Sr., G, Cleveland, OH: Liggins
went over the 20-point mark in both games as A-B split a pair of games at
the Lake Erie Classic...The senior averaged 21.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and
3.0 steals per game in the Battlers' opening two contests...He tossed in 23
points in a victory over Lake Erie and added 20 points in a narrow overtime
loss to St. Joseph's (IN).

Other top efforts: West Liberty's Ben Howlett (21 points in blowout win over
Salem), Pitt Johnstown's Marcus Tullis (21 points in win over PSU-Greater
Allegheny, went over 1,000-point mark for career), Glenville State's Tryvan
Leech (19.0 ppg in two victories, 10-14 3 PT FG), Shepherd's Justin Jarman
(13.5 ppg, 10.5 rpg in two losses), West Virginia State's Ricky Jackson
(18.0 ppg, 9.0 rpg in 1-1 week), Fairmont State's Ian Grady (14.5 ppg, 11.5
rpg in two victories), Charleston's Anthony Anderson (16.5 ppg in 1-1 week),
West Virginia Wesleyan's Jerel Thomas (16.0 ppg in two losses), Salem
International's Chris Carey (15 points, 10 rebounds in loss to West
Liberty), and Seton Hill's Cody Boone (14 points, 11 rebounds in loss to
Mansfield).


*Women's Basketball Player of the Week (11/15-16):*

---Tori Hansen, West Liberty, 5-8, Soph., G, Waterford, PA: Hansen posted
strong numbers across the board as the Toppers opened the season with a
split at the Wheeling Jesuit Classic...The sophomore averaged a
double-double with 18.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game...The 2008 WVIAC
Freshman of the Year also contributed 7.0 assists and 4.0 steals per
game...She narrowly missed a triple-double in Sunday's victory against Lake
Erie with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and 9 assists.

Other top efforts: Charleston's Veronica Carman (19.5 ppg in 1-1 week),
Wheeling Jesuit's Lindsay Stuckey (17.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg in two wins),
Alderson-Broaddus' Caitlyn Brown (17.0 ppg, 9.0 rpg in two losses),
Glenville State's Mallory Menendez (18 points in loss to Ashland), Concord's
Sierra Brown (17.0 ppg in two losses), West Virginia Wesleyan's Sarah Van
Horn (15.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg in two losses), Pitt Johnstown's Lindsay Cale (13.0
ppg in 0-2 week), and Shepherd's Colleen Shumaker (11.0 rebounds in 0-2
week).
