Virginia Tech quarterbacks Tyrod Taylor and Sean Glennon both remain questionable for tonight’s ACC showdown with Maryland at Lane Stadium.
Kickoff tonight is scheduled for 7:30, and it will likely be then before we know who will be under center for the Hokies. Taylor and Glennon each suffered high left ankle sprains in Virginia Tech’s loss at Florida State on October 25.
Hokies’ Coach Frank Beamer told the press this week that both men have been getting some reps in practice, but the status of either one will be determined at game time. If either Glennon or Taylor can’t go, the nod goes to fifth-year senior and third-stringer Cory Holt.
“This football team and coaching staff has a lot of confidence in Cory; he’s been around and knows what’s going on,” Beamer said. “He threw the ball very well in the Florida State game and since the Florida State game; we feel comfortable with him.”
Holt entered the game against the Seminoles after Taylor and Glennon went down with their injuries. Holt completed three of his six passes for 28 yards and a touchdown.
Before taking most of the reps at quarterback this week, Holt was being used at wide receiver for the Hokies. If Holt is called upon Thursday night, it’ll be his first career start at quarterback for Virginia Tech.
Maryland is nursing its’ own wounds. Tailback Da’ Rel Scott is the ACC’s leading rusher, but is listed as questionable for the Terps. Scott is recovering from a shoulder injury, but Coach Ralph Friedgen said he’s practiced this week.
In addition to Scott, the Terps are also hoping Fullback Cory Jackson (leg), offensive lineman Scott Burley (leg) and linebacker Dave Philistin (shoulder) are able to go. All three are listed as questionable.
